About Our Farmstead

Learn the story behind Dancing Feathers Farm, a first-generation dairy goat, rainbow egg layer, flower, and heirloom vegetable farm on 14 Michigan acres.

The Buck Family

Meet The Buck Family

We’re first-generation homesteaders with a passion for permaculture and sustainable farming practices. Jen was born and raised in northern Illinois. Her education and time in the military took her to places like South Carolina, Iowa, Missouri, Texas, and Germany. She met Jordan and instantly fell in love with his North Carolinian accent, impressive carpenter skills, and gentle way with animals. Together with our two children, Anya and Annabelle, we’re building our Michigan farmstead one plant and animal at a time, day by day, and board by board. Our goal is to become a local staple for fresh food, agritourism, and education.

Since 2015

Dancing Feathers Farm began as a suburban backyard homestead with a small flock of chickens and a single raised garden bed. What started as a way to better connect to our food, health, and wellness has transformed into a dedication to transparency and appreciation for simplicity.

We purchased our Michigan farmstead in the fall of 2020 and since making the leap to acreage, we’ve grown our layer flock,  added a herd of dairy goats, renovated our 1900’s livestock barn, harvested over 15lbs of spears a day from our asparagus patch, built our kitchen garden, and planted hundreds of perennial plants, flowers, and trees. We look forward to discovering what the next few years bring and sharing more farming adventure with you.
